Het World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) zal in 2010 (10 juli 1200 UTC – 11 juli 1200 UTC) plaatsvinden in de buurt van Moskou. 50 teams zullen er onder identieke omstandigheden met elkaar wedijveren in CW/SSB. Activated in 1989, 1995, 1999 and 2002, the mysterious Flannan Isles are certainly a much needed IOTA. Extremely difficult to access due to North Atlantic weather systems constantly eroding the only two available landing sites, a determined international group of IOTA enthusiasts intend to activate the Flannan Isles between June 18 – 21, 2010. Weather/seas permitting, the activation will be attempted by a multinational operators team. With a little over 12 weeks to go before this tricky IOTA activation, the team would like to remind enthusiasts to visit the MSØINT website for more details on the expedition and how you can support/assist them. 3W6C - Announced DXpedition to Côn Có island, Vietnam

Scheduling their activities for April 2010, an international group of amateur radio operators plan to conduct a DXpedition to a remote island off the coast of Vietnam. During their 2-week stay, they will make radio contacts with as many ham radio operators as possible around the globe. Running four stations 24 hours a day, they hope to reach 60,000 hams in that period. In addition, the Vietnam telecom authorities have issued an official amateur radio license as required for any such activity; in this case, the call sign under which all radio communications will take place is 3W6C. The multinational project, being coordinated by Swiss ham-radio operators, consists of roughly 20 individuals including one woman with members not only from Switzerland but also from Vietnam, Germany, USA and Japan.
Côn Có Island, with a land surface of just 2 square kilometers, is 32 km off the central coast of Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin. The island has a population of approximately 400 people. For many years it was a restricted military zone, but today the Vietnamese government is working to turn this idyllic location into a tourist and vacation destination. What is of special interest to ham operators is that this island has rarely seen any radio activity. And because it belongs to the popular Islands of the Air program (designation: AS-185), and the fact that Vietnam itself is high in the list of most-wanted countries for radio contacts, the DXpedition expects very high interest from the amateur radio community around the world. The goal is to make contacts on as many different frequencies as possible, even in the 80 meter and 160 meter bands, which makes this DXpedition very special. But this goal also means that the group must transfer considerable amounts of equipment – including radios, antennas, power generators, computers, and various ancillary supplies – with them to the island.

This past week the callsigns for the upcoming DXpedition to activate four uninhabited IOTA islands (in the Southern Line Islands Group) that have never been put on the air before, were announced:
A team of five operators and five Government Kiribati officers will set sail on the "SV Kwai" from Kiritimati (Christmas Island) on approximately March 17th, returning to Kiritimati around April 18th. Per their Web site, the team will operate from two sites (two stations each) and will operate on 40-10 meters using a variety of verticals and dipoles. QSL direct via SM6CAS.

IARU Region 1 President Hans Blondeel Timmerman, PB2T, draws attention to the problem of some amateur radio operators in the CQWW 160-Meter SSB contest operating outside the Amateur band. On the IARU Region 1 website he writes:
“It was disappointing to notice that numerous contest stations from Region 1 violated their national regulations by transmitting out of band during last weekend's CQ World Wide 160-Meter SSB Contest. While I can have some understanding that the IARU bandplan for top band is not followed during this major contest, I totally disagree that contest stations transmit outside bands allocated to the amateur service. For a station transmitting in LSB on 160 meters this is below 1813 kHz (for transceivers with carrier readout). The amateur service has always been known as a self regulating service, which has helped us in our negotiations with administrations. A behavior as shown last weekend will certainly not help us in the future. I call upon all contesters to reinstate our values”.

The General User Radio Licence for Amateur Radio Operators has been amended to allow operators to use the frequency band 505 kHz to 515 kHz on a temporary basis from 1 March 2010. Requirements of the licence include a maximum radiated power of 25 watts e.i.r.p., maximum bandwidth of 200 Hz, and the requirement not to interfere with other services licensed to use that band.

The Wireless Planning & Communication (WPC) Wing of the Ministry of Communications in India has written to Gopal VU2GMN (President, Amateur Radio Society of India) to inform that 10100 to 10150 has been allocated to Amateur Services on a secondary basis in India.
This means that VU2 hams are free to use this on a non-interference basis with existing users of these frequencies. Earlier, temporary permission was issued from time to time for this WARC band. It has also been communicated to Gopal that the 50-52 MHz (6M) band cannot be allocated now since it has already been allocated to other services. Hopefully they can still get some spot frequencies there in future.

Lebanon will be hosting the Sixth Francophone Games, which will be held in Beirut from 27th of September to 6th of October 2009. The Radio Amateurs of Lebanon (RAL) will be sponsoring a special event Amateur Radio Station "OD5F" for the duration of the event. The Francophone games are held every 4 years, with the participation of 3.000+ athletes, youths and artists from 56 French speaking countries and 14 observer countries. SM3CER, Jan and SM7LQV, Lars created a Log Processing Robot, that not only will be able to automatically receive all logs, but also to present a continuously updated Claimed Scores List, that will grow upon the receipt of all logs. The speed of checking logs will be highly increased and final results will be ready much earlier. Subsequently, the deliveries of Awards and Plaques will go much faster. Van 18 t/m 27 september zal de sectie NOK de speciale roepnaam ON65POL gebruiken ter gelegenheid van de 65-jarige herdenking van de bevrijding van het Kempisch bruggenhoofd door de Polar Bears. Deze herdenking gaat gepaard met een militaire samenkomst waarbij de specifieke voertuigen en vliegtuigen zullen geschouwd worden na de herdenkingsplechtigheid aan het monument aldaar. Dit is een opvolging van ON62..63 en 64POL (zie HF 'Stories').Het publiek kan het gebeuren aanschouwen vanop de 'Zuiderdijk sportterreinen' (naast het kanaalsas) te St-Jozef Rijkevorsel.

België viert in 2009 een dubbele gebeurtenis op wetenschappelijk gebied. Het is reeds 100 jaar geleden dat Adrien de Gerlache aan boord van het schip de ‘Belgica’ de leiding had over de eerste Belgische wetenschappelijke expeditie naar het Antarctische continent (1897–1899). Op 15 februari 2009 is op Antarctica het nieuwe onderzoeksstation ‘Princess Elisabeth’ plechtig ingehuldigd. Dit nieuw wetenschappelijk onderzoekstation is het eerste in zijn soort dat aan het ‘zero emission’ concept voldoet.
De Haspengouwse radioamateurs ‘Trudo Radioamateurs Club – TRC’ willen deze samenvallende gebeurtenissen in de verf zetten door het hele jaar 2009 door ON100PES te activeren. De roepnaam bestaat uit het samenvoegen van drie elementen: ‘ON’ als prefix voor België, ‘100’ is de 100-jarige verjaardag voor de poolexpedities en ‘PES’ is het letterwoord voor ‘Princess Elisabeth Station’.
Een bijzondere dubbele QSL-kaart wordt toegezonden aan alle stations die hun QSL naar het clubstation ON4TRC sturen. Een award is eveneens voorzien voor OM die op vijf banden met dit station gewerkt hebben (HF + 2m/70cm).

Between June 5 and 8, the special event station F/PA65DDAY will be active from Juno Beach to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day on 80, 40 and 20m SSB. QSL via PA0HFT, direct or via the Dutch VERON bureau only.
TM5BBC will be active on June 4 to 12 from the square tower of the Castle of Creully to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day. After the landing, starting on June 7, 1944, the BBC services used this building and from it, covered and broadcasted the information about the Battle of Normandy. Broadcasting on the original frequency of 1602 kHz, in AM, using rebuilt original gear, will be heard on June 4 and 5 between 1000-1100 UTC and on June 6 and 7, between 1130-1230 UTC. QSL via F2UW to the bureau.
TM6SME will be aired from Edemonville, a close village to Sainte Mère l'Eglise. Most of the activity will happen from June 5-7 on HF, and maybe 2m, CW and SSB. Contacts with TM6SME on two bands or two modes is worth a special award to be claimed via Michel F6IPS, with a large SAE. The cost of the award is at your choice in IRC, but not less than 2. As this year is the Centenary Year of Naval Aviation, there are a number of events and publications throughout the year to celebrate and commemorate this event. The Royal Naval Amateur Radio Society is to operate a special event station during May 2009. The station will have the callsign GB100FAA and will be operated by members of the Society, initially from HMS Collingwood at Fareham (1st to 15th May) and latterly at the Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton in Somerset (19th to 21st May). |

"The weather is worsening by the hour and the weather forecast for the coming days does not give any hope", Theo ON4ATW said this morning.
News from the Rockall Team: "The arrival at Rockall is now foreseen Wednesday morning (April 29). The weather forecast is that on Friday a storm is expected to pass the Rockall area. As they have to clear the island before that, it is most likely the team will be on the air with 2 stations for about 24 hours instead of the planned 48 hours. Karel, ON5TN urgently asked again: "Work us only once in order to give everybody a fair chance"."

(March 28, 2009 - js) The special event station ON65CLM stands for the “Canadian Liberation March” and will be aired by UBA club station ONZ from 01/03/2009 until 31/12/2009. This march is to remember the liberation of the Town Knokke by the Canadian armed forces in November 1944. The original march of the liberators started in Hoofdplaat in the Netherlands, 33 km away from Knokke. Nowadays thousands of grateful marchers participate every year at this 33 km long walk in remembrance of those brave men.

(March 13, 2009 - js) A multi national team of 19 operators will activate Midway Island in October 2009. The US Fish & Wildlife Service has authorized amateur operation from this rare US entity for only a 10 day period, its first radio activity in almost 10 years.
Midway Island ranks number 24 worldwide and number 13 in Europe on the DX Magazine's “Most Wanted List”. Activity will be on 6 meters to 160 meters with 5 to 6 stations. At least one station will be active on 20 meters around the clock for those who need it for a new country. Major efforts will be made to meet the demand to the most needed geographical areas, the low bands and RTTY.

(December 22, 2008 - js) Randy Thompson K5ZD , Director of the CQ WPX Contest, announced that the rules for the 2009 CQ WPX Contest (SSB: March 28–29, 2009 CW: May 30–31, 2009) are now available. There are changes throughout the rules, so participants are encouraged to read the complete rules carefully. Many of the changes were to align with similar rules in the CQ WW Contest or to clarify administrative details. There is no change to the scoring.

(December 21, 2008 - js) The Bulgarian Federation of Radio Amateurs (BFRA) is pleased to invite High Speed Telegraphy (HST) teams, individual competitors and visitors/guests from all over the world to 8th World HST Championship to be held in Bulgaria from 11 to 15 September 2009.
The Championship will be held in the town of Obzor, a well known Bulgarian vacation resort situated at the Black Sea coast.

(6 décembre 2008 - js) En 1834 - la Belgique avait 4 ans - circula pour la première fois hors du Royaume-Uni un train tracté par une locomotive à vapeur, roulant sur des rails de fer assez voisins de ceux que nous connaissons aujourd'hui. Cet événement, anodin en apparence, eut lieu entre les villes de Malines et Bruxelles en Belgique. A cette occasion, l'IBPT a attribué à la station-club du BRARC, section belge de la FIRAC, l'indicatif spécial ON175BR, utilisable de décembre 2008 au 31 décembre 2009. Les QSO effectués avec la station-club sont valables pour l'obtention du diplôme FIRAC.
HE8, HB8 - 80ème anniversaire USKA

(4 décembre 2008 - js) Pour fêter l'anniversaire de ses 80 ans, l'USKA a accordé l'utilisation des préfixes spéciaux HE8 et HB8 en 2009.
Les titulaires d'une licence radio amateur 1, 2 ou CEPT peuvent utiliser le préfixe spécial HE8 à la place de HB9. Les titulaires d'une licence novice 3 (HB3) pourront utiliser le préfixe spécial HB8 à la place de HB3. Ces préfixes sont valables du 1er janvier au 31 décembre 2009.
